When riding in the city limits you will need to abide by these ordinances as well as the Nebraska State Laws. When reading these ordinances make note of word choice. Some times people accidentally misquote these ordinances and dramatically change their meaning. You will want to have a firm grasp of these ordinances for those "what if," situations.
When riding outside the city limits cyclists enjoy a few more rights. Most notably Section 60-6,317 which provides exceptions to the "ride as far right as practicable," clauses. Also make sure you remember that it is "practicable" not "possible". There is a big difference, and knowing this can be all you need to make your ride that much safer.
With over 40 new recruits Husker Cycling is off to a great start. With 27 men and 13 women both teams are excited and almost overwhelmed. Cycling president Matt Farnham comments, "The hard part now is to get everyone plugged in. We hope everyone takes advantage of the local rides, that is the key to getting better and more involved."
The next few group rides and the first meeting will be a sure stop for all of the new Husker Cyclists and anyone else who is interested but missed the welcome events.
Husker Cycling will host a fall training camp for team members who are active within the local community. Riders will enjoy several days of riding together over fall break. Although there will be several rides for road and mountain bikers, the fall training camp is focused on fun and team building. This training camp will be a great way for new and existing riders to jump start their cycling season, and build long lasting memories and friendship. Check back soon for more details…
Getting involved in any new community can be an exciting and sometimes confusing task. It may be hard to find relevant information such as locate races, rides, and other events. These difficulties often prevent new riders from truly experiencing what the Lincoln Cycling Community has to offer.
